Iame Winter Cup: Near Perfect run for Oliver Bearman

Eighty Three. Thats how many seniors are present in Valencia for the Iame X30 Winter Cup. And what an amazing field it is, including defending champion Mark Kimber.

The defending champion’s defence didn’t get off to the best start, finishing qualifying in 16th overall, a session which was topped by KR-Sport’s Oliver Bearman. Kart Republic Spain’s Daniel Nogales was 2nd with Rueben Moya and Callum Bradshaw towards the sharp end in 3rd & 4th. Kimber wasn’t the only driver ‘out of position’, with Strawberry team mate Dean MacDonald in 26th while Rotax Max Grand final vice champion Guy Cunnington in 46th. It was worse for Josh Rowledge, who finished qualifying down in 52nd.

Bearman stayed at the top after the heats, taking three wins and a 2nd. The only man to beat Bearman, Callum Bradshaw, had to settle for 2nd after falling to 5th in the final heat of the competition. Reuben Moya was the top home driver for PSR thanks to a quartet of podiums while Cian Shields impressed on his international debut, finishing all of his heats in the top 4.

Kimber’s weekend started to improve, finishing 3 of his 4 heats within the top 5, leaving him just inside the top 10 with teammate MacDonald just behind in 11th. Eduardo Coseteng impressed in the final heat of the day, taking the victory over Shields, but contact in heat 1 meant he would finish the day 13th. The big movers were Sean Butcher and Rowledge. Butcher managed to haul his KR Sport machine into 14th in the standings, having qualified 39th while Rowledge finished 3 heats in the top 10, leaving him 19th!

Missing out on an automatic qualification was Kacper Skuza. The Brit qualified in 6th, but a DNF in his 3rd heat left him down in 41st and fighting for a place in the final as will Ubeltz Moar in 32nd. Alicia Barrett will also be in with a shot of the final, starting the SCH in 8th.

The seniors will be back on track at 10:50 for the second chance heat before the pre final at 12:10. The Senior final will be the last race of the weekend.
